The Carquinez Review has merged with The Benicia Literary Arts Guild to form the new nonprofit BeniciaLiteraryArts.org, which can also be reached at BeniciaLit.org.

In a few seconds, you will be automatically redirected to the BeniciaLiteraryArts.org website.

  • Just heard about hackerspaces on NPR:
The Allen County Public Library . . . has a modest hackerspace inside a trailer in its parking lot. Library director Jeff Krull says hosting it is consistent with the library’s mission. ”We see the library as not being in the book business, but being in the learning business and the exploration business and the expand-your-mind business” . . . .
Listen and wonder whether something similar could happen in Benicia Library’s basement.
  • Poetry reading this Sunday at Arts Benicia. The following is copied from their website:
Julia Vinograd and Jan Steckel Poetry Reading Sunday, December 11, 2:00 pm Benicia Literary Arts Guild is proud to present a poetry reading by Julia Vinograd and Jan Steckel. Julia Vinograd has published 57 books of poetry and received the American Book Award of the Before Columbus Foundation. Julia Steckel has published over 100 poems and short stories and been nominated for the Pushcart prize.
If you’re going, pictures and recordings from the readings would be welcome.

Members of the Benicia Literary Arts Guild and Carquinez Review met yesterday evening in the conference room at the Benicia Herald to discuss how the two groups might become one. In attendance were Marc Ethier, Lois Requist, Joseph Rafac, James Stevenson and Carolyn Plath from the Benicia Literary Arts Guild and Josanna Berkow and Dave Badtke from Carquinez Review (CR).

After a spirited discussion of what would be required to make the two organizations one, since the two missions seemed to overlap and complement one another so well and the Carquinez Review was already a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, it was determined that the officers of CR simply needed to vote to include everyone in attendance on the CR Executive Board.

This vote was easily accomplished by Sanna and Dave, and the new organization, focused on promoting literary arts and community in a fashion that still needs to be formulated, was created.

You should have received an email from Carolyn Plath indicating that the officers so far are Co-Presidents Dave Badtke and Josanna Berkow, Vice President Marc Ethier, Chief Financial Officer Joseph Rafac, and Secretary Dave Badtke.

For the moment www.CarquinezReview.com can serve as a virtual meeting place where you can come to learn more about the organization’s mission, activities and events. Expect many changes including the structure of this blog, which needs much more, and name changes as well. That said and with apologies for anything that needs to be different, I wanted to publish something today to support Carolyn’s inspirational comments: “This milestone propels us into a new era of activities and influence. We are extremely pleased to take this step forward.”

I’ve created contributor logins for all the executive board members so that you can begin to contribute to this site. Please login, change your password to something more secure than the one you received in your email, and begin adding comments and content.

If you’re not on the executive board and would like to contribute to this site, please let me know by emailing me at Dave@CarquinezReview.com.
